The Bible is About One Main Thing--
The Restoration of Relationships

There is history in the Bible, some of which can be found nowhere else.  But the Bible is not a history book.  It is there because it has to do with what God has done to redeem His people.

There are laws in the Bible.  But the Bible is not a rule book.  They have to do with how we relate to God and to others.

There are stories in the Bible, many of which are dramatic.  But the Bible is not a story book.  They have to do with what God has done, is doing and will do to restore broken relationships.  And the greatest story is about Jesus and His love.

Consequently, wherever you go in the Bible, however you teach the Bible (word studies, book studies, doctrinal or topical themes), remember this:  If you don’t see the restoration of relationships you have missed the point.  Put another way—the Bible is about redemption, that is reconciliation with God and others, freedom from guilt and shame and the promise of a whole new world free of the curse.  Are these themes prominent in your lessons?
