CE&P
STAGES TWO EQUIP CONFERENCES
|
Christian
Education and Publications regularly conducts training
seminars across the PCA. Equip conferences, which present a
variety of workshops, are usually Saturday events. They are
either co-sponsored with a local presbytery.
Equip
conferences are currently scheduled for January 24, 2004 and
February 7, 2004. Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery,
Alabama, will host the January conference. Seven tracks of
instruction and training will include: children’s
ministry, women’s ministry, family ministry, officer
training, youth ministry and seminars for those teaching
adults. The faculty will include: CE&P staff members
Richard Aeschliman, Robert Edmiston, and Sue Jakes and
regional trainers Allen Curry and Priscilla Stewart. Kathy
Cheely, former member of the Women’s Advisory
Subcommittee, will conduct the women’s track.
Seminar
topics will range from learning styles to kids in service to
family worship and marriage. Speakers will discuss what it
means to be a church officer, how to prepare a Bible study,
and how to grow leaders. Analysis of a healthy women’s
ministry and ways to partner with parents in youth ministry
will also be offered. More specific information is available
from the CE&P office or its website www.pcanet.org/cep.
The
February conference will be in Waterloo, Illinois at the
Concord Presbyterian Church. It will be jointly sponsored by
CE&P, Great Commission Publications, and Illiana
presbytery’s Christian education committee.
The faculty
will include Barksdale Pullen, a CE&P regional trainer
and member of the children’s ministry advisory
subcommittee. Local pastor Will Hesterberg, a member of the
CE&P permanent committee, will lead a multicultural
track. Barry Henning will assist him with that track.
CE&P staff will be represented by: Richard Aeschliman in
the officer training track, Robert Edmiston with topics
related to teaching the Bible, Dean Conkel leading on youth
ministry in the local church, and Charles Dunahoo, CE&P
Coordinator, with the Kingdom framework for making
disciples.

2004
WIC Leadership Conference
The 2004
WIC Leadership Training will be held February 26-29 at the
Atlanta Airport Marriott Hotel for PresWIC (Presbytery Women
in the Church) leadership and the directors of women’s
ministry. WIC Leadership Training 2004 is a by-invitation
event for PresWIC leaders and women who serve on local
church staffs with responsibility for ministry to women. A
large reason for WIC’s successful ministry in the PCA has
come from these annual training seminars. Ideas have been
presented, discussed, and looked at from clearly biblical
and practical standpoints. Networking, continuing education
and good relationships have grown from these meetings.
There will
be a rich slate of training and equipping speakers. Rev.
Rick Tyson, pastor of Calvary PCA in Philadelphia and a
member of the permanent CE&P Committee, will be the
Sunday preacher at the conference. Susan Hunt, Rebecca
Jones, Kathleen Nielson and Carol Ruvelo, all authors of
women’s Bible studies, will be featured speakers. WIC
trainers, other noted workshop leaders and CE&P regional
trainers will bring added training and resources to the
participants.
According
to Jane Patete, CE&P’s WIC coordinator, this annual
training event is sporting a new name and a new track. 2004
Leadership Training will offer a Bible study track to
network, train and encourage PCA Bible study leaders through
workshops, plenary sessions, and time to interface with
speakers.
The
purpose of this year’s training event will be threefold:
- To
equip PresWIC leadership to pass on a biblical legacy of
leadership to future generations.
- To
equip Bible study leaders to pass on that legacy through
the teaching of the Word.
- To
develop leaders of women who build future generations to
think and live biblically.
The annual
2003 Love Gift check will be presented to Reformed
University Ministries on Friday evening. Mission to North
America, the 2004 Love Gift recipient, will host the dinner
and introduce their project to those present.
CE&P
expects around 200 participants for the training event,
coming from each PCA presbytery, as well as a number from
local churches.

Sixth
Annual Children's Ministry Conference
CE&P will
host the sixth annual Children’s Ministry Conference on April
19-21 at Emerald Pointe Resort and Conference Center at Lake
Lanier Islands, Georgia for those involved in children’s
ministry. Over 200 attendees are expected to take part in this
three-day conference from across the PCA. Children’s ministry
coordinator Sue Jakes states the conference purpose: “To reach
the next generation, we must be a strong church filled with strong
families. We want to encourage the leadership as well as the
parents and teachers to focus on…‘Discipling God’s Covenant
People.’”
The children’s
conference will include five tracks:
1.
Involving church leadership in children’s ministry.
2.
Training the home at church to train the church at home.
3.
Nursery: the need for strong beginnings.
4.
Discipling covenant children—Expecting a young generation
of true disciples.
5.
Discipling the disciplers.
The featured
speakers for the conference will be: Dr. Edmund Clowney, former
president of Westminster Theological Seminary and current
theologian in residence at Trinity Presbyterian Church in
Charlottesville, Virginia, Dr. Stephen Smallman, senior pastor of
New Life Northeast Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, and Mr.
Eric Wallace, president and director of the Institute for Uniting
Church and Home.
Seminars and
workshops on a variety of topics will be available, as well as
time for sharing, building relationships and exchanging ideas. The
location is on the shores of Georgia’s most scenic lake, Lake
Lanier, and will provide a setting for relaxation, training, and
opportunities for mutual encouragement.
CE&P expects
to present two new resources at the April conference: a PCA Children’s
Ministry Manual and Teach Me to Worship, a manual
designed to aid parents and teachers in the training of children
in worship. Participants will have an opportunity to examine
Sunday school curriculum from Great Commission Publications
materials, the publishing ministry of the PCA. Many of Christian
Education and Publications’ staff and regional trainers will be
present for interaction with the participants.
