Documents from
20th Century American Presbyterian History:
- Future updates of this page
will include the a growing number of documents from the founding
of the PCA, as well as other documents significant to the later
development of American Presbyterian history.
Documents from the founding era of the PCA:
Declaration
Of Commitment
- In 1969, copies of this
document were sent to 1100 ordained pastors in the PCUS. This
number represented about one fourth of the pastors in the PCUS
at that time. By early October of that year, over 500 had signed
the document in support of biblical orthodoxy.
"At
the Crossroads"
- This message was delivered
by the Rev. Donald B. Patterson at the First General Assembly
of the PCA , then called the National Presbyterian Church.
Documents
from the Modernist/Fundamentalist controversy:
Machen
Disciplined
- A reproduction of a
news clipping from an as yet unidentified newspaper.
The
Auburn Affirmation - Published
in 1924, with over 1200 ministers eventually signing the document,
this declaration was a clear
indication of how widespread was the departure within the Presbyterian
Church from the historic tenets of the Christian faith.
