Presbyterian Church in America
Open Letter
from
The Moderator,
Twenty-Seventh General Assembly
March 20, 2000
Dear Friend in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
As retiring Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in America, I hope that you will be
with us in Tampa, Florida on June 20-23, 2000 for the 28th General Assembly of
our growing and vibrant denomination.
The Lord is blessing our church in many ways during this, the 27th year of
the existence of the PCA. Our outreach to the nation and the world continues to prosper in
the gospel while we remain faithful to the truth and dependent on the power of the Word.
Our committees and agencies are experiencing a blessed year. We are especially grateful
for the smooth and effective change in leadership of the Committee on Administration. The
proper functioning of this committee is critical to the work of the other committees and
agencies as well as the planning and execution of the General Assembly.
Come and be with us as we hear reports from our committees on the work of the church.
As I have attended the assemblies over these many years, I particularly enjoy hearing
testimonies of organizing pastors on the planting of churches across this great nation of
ours.
In keeping with where we as a society are and where we are positioned as a church, the
local arrangements committee in Tampa has issued the following invitation: "You
are invited to a holy convocation, General Assembly 2000. Come do the Lords work in
the context of worship." They have chosen as a theme, to be carried through
both the Pre-Assembly Workshops as well as the Assembly Worship services: "Confronting
the Culture-Consecrating the Church."
Please remember this assembly in prayer, especially that we will experience a time when
the Holy Spirit is at work in our hearts and that our words and actions will be acceptable
and pleasing to the Lord, that we would indeed, "do the Lords work in the
context of worship."
Your brother in Christ,
Tom Leopard Moderator
